Delorentos join a host of stars to perform in an evening of free entertainment
An
event to celebrate the role the Arts Council plays in supporting Ireland’s rich
and vibrant arts scene will take place in Merrion Square Park on Culture Night,
Friday 19 September.
An
eclectic mix of Ireland's brightest and most innovative talents in the arts
will all perform at the free event. The line-up spans artistic genres and
ranges from the punchy guitar melodies of Delorentos (playing songs from
their forthcoming new album "Night Becomes Light") to emerging talent
Danny Battles, a seventeen year old singer-songwriter from Bantry. A
segment dedicated to Poems That Make Grown Men Cry will feature a series
of special guest readers including writer, director and film-maker Alan
Gilsenan, Irish historian Diarmaid Ferriter and Irish folk musician Donal
Lunny. Kevin Barry, winner of the International IMPAC Dublin Literary
Award, will give a reading and Irish actor Don Wycherley will deliver a
one-man show, After Sarah Miles. Sean nós singer Iarla Ó Lionáird
and the Aspiro Choir (one of Ireland's leading youth choirs) will
further broaden the musical entertainment on the night and The Liz Roche
Dance Company will also perform on the night.
“This line-up demonstrates that right across the
artistic spectrum, Ireland is home to enormously talented individuals doing
important work in many art forms. From renowned Uileann piper Leonard Barry
to the show stopping Irish Youth Opera, this event looks set to
electrify audiences on Culture Night. Traditionally a fantastic occasion which
facilitates the public in experiencing the diversity and range of Ireland’s
rich artistic and cultural life, we hope that this event will add an extra
dimension to the night through live performances representing a broad
cross-section of art forms,” said OrlaithMcBride, Director of
the Arts Council.
The
event is free and will take place in Merrion Square on Culture Night, Friday 19th
September. Tickets will be available on a rolling first come, first serve basis
(with admittance throughout the evening) and gates open at 5.30pm.
