The Arts Council congratulates author Donal Ryan, who has won the 2015 European Prize for Fiction for his novel, The Spinning Heart. This prestigious award is the latest accolade for his début novel, which portrays the impact of Ireland’s economic crash on the inhabitants of a small village in County Clare.
Speaking of the award, Sheila Pratschke, Chair of the Arts Council said: “The Arts Council is delighted to hear of Donal Ryan’s win last evening. Ryan’s sensitive ear for speech captures all moods and tones, from wistfulness and black humour to depression and despair. His is a literary voice that is attuned to the past, while creating work that is boldly contemporary. We wish him every success for the future.”
Donal Ryan is the 2015 Arts Council Writer in Residence at the University of Limerick
