The Arts Council extends its warmest congratulations to Lisa McInerney on the news that she has been awarded the 2016 Bailey’s Women’s Prize for Fiction for her debut novel THE GLORIOUS HERESIES.
Following the announcement Sheila Pratschke, Chair of the Arts Council said, "The Arts Council is thrilled to see Lisa McInerney win this prestigious prize. In the past number of years, through her fiction and her award-winning blog, McInerney has proven herself to be a bold, new and exciting literary voice and it is a great pleasure to see her fearless first novel celebrated tonight.”
Ireland is renowned for its rich literary tradition and its dynamic contemporary writers. International awards such as the Bailey’s Women’s Prize for Fiction – for which Booker Prize-winning author and Laureate for Irish Fiction Anne Enright was also shortlisted this year – are further testament to Ireland’s standing as a centre of literary excellence.
