The Arts Council wishes to congratulate The Gloaming on winning the 2014 Meteor Choice Music Prize. The judging panel chose The Gloaming for their acclaimed self-titled debut album. The group, which includes Cork vocalist Iarla Ó Lionaird and fiddle players Martin Hayes and Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, combine traditional and contemporary musical elements.
Speaking today, Sheila Pratschke, Chair of the Arts Council said “The Gloaming have taken Irish traditional music on an exciting journey, engaging with new audiences across the world but with their feet firmly rooted in the tradition never compromising the integrity of where the music comes from”.
The Gloaming are featured in Moment to Moment, a film produced by South Wind Blows which premiered on TG4 in December 2013 and was funded with a Traditional Arts Project Award in 2012.
