The Arts Council has expressed its regret at the passing of poet and Aosdána member Richard Murphy.
Sheila Pratschke, Chair of the Arts Council said: "Richard Murphy was one of Ireland’s most eminent poets. His work was marked by its honesty, its sensitivity and its close relationship with the people and the landscape of the West of Ireland. Murphy, through his long career, has inspired a generation of writers and readers – and I know that his work will continue to be read and cherished by generations more. The Council is deeply saddened by his passing."
