The Arts Council has expressed its sadness at the death of visual artist and Aosdána member Sean MacSweeney.
Speaking today, Sheila Pratschke, Chair of the Arts Council said, "Sean is a huge loss to Irish art. His art will be forever embedded in the history of Irish art, having exhibited in the Irish Exhibition of Living Art in the sixties. He was inspired by the landscape, particularly near his home in Co. Sligo and was able to capture the depth and romance of this through his abstract style. He will be greatly missed."
