Animated short film
Coda, has been shortlisted for the 2015 Academy Awards under the Best Animated Short Film category. Directed by Alan Holly and produced by Ciaran Deeney, the film was co-funded by the Arts Council, the Irish Film Board and RTÉ under the Frameworks animation scheme.
The hand-drawn animated film tells the story of a lost soul who stumbles drunkenly through Dublin city. In a park, death finds him and shows him many things. The film is voiced by Brian Gleeson (The Stag) and Orla Fitzgerald (The Wind that Shakes the Barley) and has won a number of international prizes including Best Animated Short at South by South West (SXSW) and Most Creative Short at the Edinburgh Short Film Festival.
Director, Alan Holly, spoke of the news: "It has been a great year for the studio here at And Maps and Plans. Coda is the first major project that we have completed, so to see it getting such great industry recognition and audience response, first at film festivals and now with our shortlisting for the Oscars and our nomination for the Annie Awards, is really wonderful. We are a small team of five core artists. Rory Byrne, Ronan McMeel and I studied together at IADT in Dublin and are joined by my brother Shane Holly, as composer, and Ciaran Deeney, as producer. Over the last few years we put in a lot of work and at times it was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel so we are really happy that Coda is being received so well and we are looking forward to moving on to a new project."
The 87th Academy Awards nominations will be announced in the New Year, on 15 January. For upcoming screenings of
