Laureate na nÓg, Children's Books Ireland and Brown Bag Films have been awarded the Dublin Airport Authority €5000 Arts Award at the 2014 Business to Arts Awards for Bookbag, the book-gifting project that gives books to school children from deprived, inner cities areas. The first Bookbag project involved children from Rutland National School, where Brown Bag made their celebrated film,
Give Up Your Oul Sins.
The prize was presented at the National Concert Hall in Dublin to the second Laureate na nÓg, Niamh Sharkey, and Children's Books Ireland Director, Elaina Ryan, by President Michael D. Higgins and Paul O'Kane, Director of Public Affairs at the Dublin Airport Authority, who sponsored the prize.
Laureate na nÓg is an exciting project recognising the role and importance of literature for children. It is an initiative of the Arts Council with the support of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Children's Books Ireland, Poetry Ireland and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
The laureateship is currently held by
Eoin Colfer.
