Lia Mills is the current Writer-in-Residence at UCD. Her first novel, Another Alice (1996) was nominated for the Irish Times Irish fiction prize while her second, Nothing Simple (2005), was shortlisted for the Irish Novel of the Year. In Your Face, a memoir of her diagnosis of and treatment for oral cancer, was named as a favourite book of 2007 by several critics and writers. Her third novel, Fallen was published in 2014.
The Arts Council has a long-standing partnership with a number of Irish universities offering Writer-in-Residence/Fellowship positions to provide university students with an opportunity to meet and develop creative reading and writing skills with a practicing writer, and to enable creative writers to develop their work while in a position of relative financial stability.
