The Arts Council today announced details of its new Making Great Art Work Funding Framework. This new framework is part of the Council’s commitment to review all existing funding programmes to ensure that the artist and public engagement is embedded across all of its future funding supports.
The framework includes five new funding categories under which artists and arts organisations can apply for funding:
- Artists’ Supports
- Project and Programme
- Strategic
- Partnership
- Development
The framework has been designed to deliver the following:
- A new open and transparent assessment and decision making process for artists and arts organisations who apply for Arts Council funding so that people can better understand the funding decisions made by the Council
- A better funding balance between the tried, tested and established arts organisations on the one hand and the new and experimental on the other
- New measures on the impact of investment in the arts so that the Council can advocate for the arts in a more robust way
- New multi-annual funding programmes that will allow arts organisations to plan more effectively
Speaking today Orlaith McBride, Director of the Arts Council said; “The Arts Council now has a new approach to funding under this framework. We have listened to what the arts sector has told us about developing our funding processes. This new framework will introduce a new level of transparency in the application, assessment and decision-making processes of the Council so that people can better understand the funding decisions we make and why we make them. We will now also be able to work closely with the arts sector to gather the necessary information to make the strongest case possible case for enhanced funding for the arts.”
Orlaith McBride added; “This new framework will also allow the Arts Council to develop the arts nationwide through targeted funding. It will help to ensure that there is regular renewal in our funding programmes so that new organisations and artists can access significant Arts Council funding in a way that they may have found difficult in the past. We are also going to invite applications for multi-annual funding for the three-year period 2018–2020 to support artistic planning and strategic development. Only a small number of applications will be approved this year under this scheme but we hope to move more organisations onto multi-annual funding programmes as resources allow.”
