The Arts Council today welcomed the news that it is to receive a grant of €65.1 million from Government for 2017 which represents a significant 8% increase on its 2016 figure.
Speaking today, Sheila Pratschke, Chair of the Arts Council said, “This is a major vote of confidence in the Arts Council, in our new strategy Making Great Art Work and in the arts sector in Ireland. It also recognises the important contribution that the arts make to the lives of people across Ireland. We welcome the ongoing focus being given to the arts and culture by Government as a legacy to the significant Commemorations Programme in 2016. We particularly welcome the hard work and commitment demonstrated by the Minister for the Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys, in securing this increase in funding for the arts in a very competitive budget process”.
