Brian Maguire (born 1951, Bray) is a highly acclaimed visual artist with an engaged practice. His work often crosses boundaries into situations overlooked by society, which challenge the viewer to recognise the contradictions in contemporary life. His contribution to the Sao Paulo Biennale (Brazil) was to make space for the disenfranchised. His work in Geel (Belgium) addresses contradictions amongst artists with intellectual disabilities. Maguire has built long standing relationships as an artist in prison in a number of countries and with those who leave prison. His work has been acquired by the Irish Museum of Modern Art and Municipal Collections in Ireland and museums internationally.
Maguire is a member of Aosdana and represented by the Kerlin Gallery, Dublin.
