The Arts Council has expressed its deep regret at the passing of playwright and Aosdána member John Arden.
John was a playwright, novelist and academic whose contribution to the world of theatre and literature spanned six decades.
His work for radio, stage and publication has always been challenging, yet at the same time humor and song have often been present. His works have carried a strong social and political relevance and even today some of his early works still have enormous resonance.
The Arts Council extends its condolences to his wife and artistic collaborator of over 50 years (Margaretta D'Arcy) and their children.
