15 June 2011: Arts Council congratulates Colum McCann on winning 2011 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award

The Arts Council extends its congratulations to Colum McCann on the news that Let the Great World Spin has won the 2011 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.

Following the announcement, Pat Moylan, Chairman of the Arts Council said: "Colum McCann is a writer of immense talent. His layered and lyrical works are defined by their incredible scope and diversity, by their understanding of human emotion and experience. His powerful and perceptive work has already earned him countless readers across the world and the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award will undoubtedly introduce his writing to an even wider audience."

Ireland is renowned for its rich literary tradition and its dynamic contemporary writers. International awards such as the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award are testament to the enormous talent of contemporary Irish writers and underlines the high esteem in which Irish literature is held, both in Ireland and abroad.
