Farmleigh 2 should use design opportunity for rebuilding Ireland’s reputation
The Chairman of the Arts Council, Ms Pat Moylan, has congratulated Dublin’s four local authorities for their success to date in the World Design Capital 2014 competition.
"Dublin is one of just three cities worldwide to be shortlisted to become World Design Capital 2014. I congratulate the four local authorities for taking Dublin this far for this prestigious designation, awarded biannually to just one city," Ms Moylan said. "The designation would provide Dublin and Ireland with a marvelous opportunity to present itself as an innovative and creative country."
"Farmleigh 2 should see how opportunities such as this one can be used to recast Ireland and to retrieve our international reputation. Farmleigh 2 should specifically look at how Ireland can have itself marked out as the world’s most innovative economy. Ireland already has huge opportunities around this given the success of its arts and culture, software, sports and other sectors. Ireland needs to look to embed the idea of this country being the world hub for innovation as a way to benefit everyone socially, culturally and economically."
Dublin’s bid for the designation showcases Irish designers at home and abroad; working across established design disciplines such as product, fashion, architecture and graphic design to animation, film, gaming and interaction design.
