The Arts Council has announced details of successful recipients under round two of the Small Festivals Scheme for 2011.
A total of €437,709 has been awarded to 81 festivals and events throughout the country. This funding, which will help animate and breathe life into communities throughout the country, is aimed at small locally-based events and festivals, and ranges from the Irish Composition Summer School in Donegal to Skibbereen Arts Festival in Cork.
Úna McCarthy, Head of Festivals at the Arts Council, said: "The impressive and exciting number of festivals supported through the Small Festivals Scheme should add a splash of colour for the summer months ahead throughout the country. As always these festivals and events could not take place without the hard work of the voluntary committees who ensure these events happen".
The scheme is intended to encourage new applicants from many smaller or locally based events. The awards offered may be used for one-off events or for a programme of festival activities. The average grant awarded to successful applicants in this round was €5,403.
