The Arts Council (12 members and a Chair) is appointed by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. The annual stipend is €8,978 for the Chairman and €5,985 for members. The Chair and members may opt to waive their fee. Pat Moylan, John O’Donnell and John Fanning have waived their fee for 2012. Expenses of Council members are paid in accordance with the guidelines and rules set down by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.
