Into the Light, the publication that accompanied a major exhibition celebrating the inspiring work of Irish artists and over 60 years of support for the arts by the Arts Council, has been honoured with a prestigious award by the Institute of Designers in Ireland.
At the annual awards of the Institute of Designers in Ireland last week, the 370-page Into the Light book, which was designed by Atelier, won the overall EYE Award in the Promotional Literature and Publication design category.
The book is a guide to the exhibitions and charts the evolution of the visual arts in Ireland since the Arts Council's establishment in the early 1950s. It features over one hundred full colour illustrations of works from the Arts Council Collection.
Ms Pat Moylan, Chairman of the Arts Council, said:
"I am delighted that the Into the Light publication has received this prestigious award. The Into the Light exhibitions were an incredible success and helped to raise the profile of the Irish visual arts. The exhibitions provided a fantastic opportunity for the public to see and experience some of the great Irish artists that the Arts Council has supported over the past 60 years.
The Arts Council collection is a manifestation of the support given to artists over the past 60 years and the Into the Light book is an excellent publication which beautifully catalogues the collection and charts the evolution of the visual arts in Ireland. We were very happy that the public viewed these magnificent works in such numbers and that so many people purchased the magnificent Into the Light book which received this award from Institute of Designers in Ireland.
The arts really matter to us in Ireland, they unite our communities in good times and in bad, and they help define us as a people. It is essential that the Arts Council engages with communities across the country to share the creative potential of our nation and Into the Light was successful in achieving this. The Arts Council will be pursuing more initiatives of this kind in the near future and bringing great art to communities across Ireland."
