As part of the Culture Night celebrations the Arts Council will open its doors on Friday 21 September from 5.30 pm until 9.00 pm to showcase work from its collection. A special focus this year will be on two works by the artist Patrick Scott, who was elected as a Saoi of Aosdana in July 2007.
The Chairman of the Arts Council Ms Pat Moylan has welcomed the announcement of additional jobs for Galway by the gaming company Electronic Arts. The Creative Industries hold a real dividend for Ireland, Ms Moylan said.
In 2012, the Arts Council celebrates the 60 years of supporting the arts with a series of exhibitions titled 'Into the Light - 60 Years of Supporting the Arts' which will be held in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Sligo. The exhibitions will consist of works selected from over 1,000 pieces which make up the Arts Council collection.

The Arts Council congratulates Grafton Architects (Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara) on winning the Silver Lion Award for Promising Practice at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2012. The announcement was made this morning by the overall Curator, David Chipperfield, at the Awards Ceremony in Venice. The Arts Council has announced the deadline for the 2013 Reel Art scheme. Launched in 2008, Reel Art is designed to provide film artists with a unique opportunity to make highly creative, imaginative and experimental documentaries on an artistic theme.
The Arts Council and Culture Ireland have announced the artist and commissioner/curator to represent Ireland at the Venice Art Biennale in 2013, which is an initiative of Culture Ireland, in partnership with the Arts Council.

In 2012, the Arts Council celebrates the 50th Anniversary of its collection as well as 60 years of supporting the arts. To mark the occasion, the Arts Council and RTÉ will support the making of four short films which respond creatively to the collection. The films will be stand alone pieces of 3 minutes in duration which will be broadcast in RTÉ Television’s weekly arts series, THE WORKS, in November and December 2012
