21 February 2011: Arts Council expresses its regret on the passing of Paul Funge

The Arts Council has expressed its regret at the passing of Paul Funge.

Speaking today, Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council said, "Paul Funge is a tremendous loss to the Irish arts community. He was a true pioneer, both in his work as an artist and in championing the arts. This he did in his home town of Gorey, but also at national level, communicating the excitement of artistic engagement when few others were vocal on the issue. He was an early advocate of the importance of arts education. We sincerely regret his passing."
