16 November 2010: The Arts Council congratulates Paul Murray on being shortlisted for the 2010 Costa Novel Award

The Arts Council extends its warmest congratulations to writer Paul Murray on the news that he has been shortlisted for the 2010 Costa Novel Award.

Following the announcement, Sarah Bannan, Head of Literature at the Arts Council, said, "Skippy Dies is an extraordinarily entertaining and moving book; it is original, intelligent and beautifully constructed. Murray shows exceptional skill as he juggles perspectives, tone and mood, and has created a work which is as funny as it is tender and sad. This is a terrific novel from a terrifically talented novelist, and it is a great pleasure to see the book recognised in this way."

Ireland is renowned for its rich literary tradition and its dynamic contemporary writers. International awards such as the Costa are further testament to Ireland’s standing as a centre of literary excellence.
