04 January 2010: Arts Council congratulates Colm Tóibín on winning the Costa Novel Award

The Arts Council has extended warmest congratulations to writer and Council member Colm Tóibín on the news that he has won the Costa Novel Award for  Brooklyn.

Following the announcement Pat Moylan, Chairman of the Arts Council said, "Brooklyn is a moving and skillfully crafted novel. Colm Tóibín pulls the reader into a world of submerged and unspoken emotion though brilliant and graceful command of language, voice and point of view. In this deceptively quiet and remarkably poignant novel, Colm's prose is expertly composed and his characters adeptly drawn. A writer wholly committed to his art, it is a great pleasure to see Colm win this award.
