The Arts Council has passed a vote of congratulation to its Chair, Ms Olive Braiden, on her selection by University College Dublin as the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate next week.
Ms Mary Cloake, Director of the Council, said the organisation was honoured that Ms Braiden was chosen for a degree of Doctor of Laws. "The Arts Council has been very fortunate to benefit from the experience of Olive Braiden as its Chairperson over the past five years. A UCD doctorate is very real acknowledgement of this work. It is also recognition of significant achievements in many other spheres of endeavour, including transformational years as Director of the Rape Crisis Centre and consistent contributions to the Human Rights Commission and the Courts Service. Olive has fulfilled many roles in politics, business and advocating on behalf of women. As a result of her energy and ability public policies on women’s issues have radically changed for the better.
"It is right that Olive’s commitment to public service in Ireland would be acknowledged. It is a great tribute to her and I am delighted that UCD has chosen her for an Honorary Doctorate."
