The Chair of the Arts Council, Olive Braiden, this morning congratulated the Irish actor Jim Norton who last night won a Tony award for his performance in Conor McPherson’s 'The Seafarer’.
"This is a wonderful achievement," said Ms. Braiden. "We in the Arts Council are very happy that an Irish actor in an Irish play has achieved such recognition."
Arts Council Director Mary Cloake said: "This award salutes the irrepressible talent, and also the hard work of Jim Norton; and we are delighted to see him honoured on Broadway."
The Arts Council also sent its congratulations to writer Conor McPherson and the other members of the cast who were nominated for awards.
McPherson's play ‘The Seafarer’ is currently touring Ireland in an Abbey Theatre production.
