The Arts Council, the Irish Government agency for developing the arts, is pleased to announce the funding decisions for the Projects: Once Off and Projects: New Work Awards for activities which will take place in 2008.
The Projects: Once Off Award, which was introduced as a new funding programme in 2006 as part of the implementation of Partnership for the Arts, enables individuals and organisations to carry out significant stand alone projects. The Arts Council received a total of 141 applications for this round of the award and offers of funding totalling €1.34m have been made to 32 applicants.
The Projects: New Work award, which encourages experimentation and collaboration and supports the development of projects that extend art form and arts practice boundaries, received 129 applications. In response, the Arts Council has made offers of funding to 25 applicants totalling over €600,000.
Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council, said: We are delighted to be able to offer funding to these individuals and organisations and in so doing we are helping artists to realise their artistic ambition as well as extending the range and diversity of arts activities throughout the country.
