10 October 2007: Arts Council announces grants of €5m to 114 arts organisations

The Arts Council, the Irish Government agency for developing the arts, is delighted to announce today its decisions under its new funding programme, Annual Programming Grants. This programme has been introduced for the first time this year as part of the Arts Council’s commitment in Partnership for the Arts to tailor funding programmes "to respond to the scale, nature and needs of arts organisations".

Annual Programming Grants offer a contribution towards the costs of specific artistic activities undertaken by organisations rather than support ongoing administration costs. A key characteristic of the new programme is that funding is offered in advance which will assist funded organisations with forward planning of their activities. Annual Programming Grants is one of a series of new funding programmes for arts organisations currently being introduced which are designed to replace the revenue funding programme which is now being discontinued.

Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council said:" We have designed our new Annual Programming Grants based on feedback from the arts community and we are delighted to be able to offer these organisations funding in 2007 for activities that are taking place in 2008".
