The Arts Council has hailed the success of the 2010 Fleadh Ceoil music festival in Cavan which closed on Monday evening. The event which the Arts Council provided with €11,000 in funding returned to Cavan for the first time since 1954 and once again showcased the best in Irish music.
The Chairman of the Arts Council, Pat Moylan said, "Fleadh Ceoil na hÉireann is a defining event in the music calendar and provides a platform and a meeting place for over 10,000 musicians, who carry on the great tradition of playing and cherishing Ireland’s music, song, and dance. The 2010 event offered the most memorable showcase of traditional Irish music yet."
"The Arts Council is delighted to be associated with such a musically significant experience. It is of great importance, both as a cultural event but also as a source of economic investment and job creation, this year making a valuable contribution to Cavan. We are glad to be able to financially support such a worthy event. The importance of the arts to economic, social and cultural life in Ireland is immeasurable," she added.
