15 April 2008: The Arts Council is saddened to learn of the death of poet Robert Greacen.

Robert Greacen was born in Derry in 1920 and lived Belfast, Monaghan and, most recently, in Dublin.


15 April 2008: Digital Cinema in Ireland

On Friday, 7 April, at the access Cinema Viewing Sessions in Drogheda, Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council, launched the report, Digital Cinema in Ireland, which was commissioned by the Cultural Cinema Consortium.

The Arts Council is pleased to announce a new pilot funding scheme for young ensembles.


03 April 2008: The Arts Council and RTÉ announce "Dance on the Box" successful projects

The Arts Council and RTÉ are delighted to announce the four films selected for the RTÉ Dance on the Box scheme. Twenty seven applications were received from producers, directors and choreographers across the country out of which six applicants were short-listed for interview.

25 February 2008: Arts Council congratulates Oscar winners

The Arts Council extends its congratulations to Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová for winning the Oscar for Best Original Song for "Falling Slowly", which is from the John Carney-directed Irish film Once.


21 February 2008: The Arts Council and the National Action Plan Against Racism

The Arts Council, the Irish Government Agency for developing the arts, and the National Action Plan against Racism (NPAR) are delighted to announce that they have entered into a partnership to carry out research designed to develop a cultural diversity policy for the arts. An action plan, informed by this research, will be developed in order to support cultural diversity practice into the future.


14 February 2008: Arts Council announces Jerome Hynes Fellowship for future cultural leaders 2008/2009

The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealáion has announced that the application window is now open for the Jerome Hynes Fellowship, an award that aims to develop outstanding cultural leaders for Ireland.


13 February 2008: The Arts Council & RTÉ announce the second RTÉ DANCE ON THE BOX

Following the success of its launch in 2006, the Arts Council and RTÉ are delighted to announce the second round of RTÉ Dance on the Box. Enhanced funding for the scheme by both organisations will mean an increase of more than 25% in the budget available for each commissioned film.


01 February 2008: Arts Council announces additional €845,000 in funding

The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon is delighted to announce the allocation of an additional €845,000 in grants to 27 organisations. In each case, these organisations were previously offered funding for 2008. These extra grants were made possible through additional funding for the Arts Council announced in December 2007 by Mr. Seamus Brennan TD, Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism.
