The Arts Council has announced details of successful recipients under round two of the Small Festivals Scheme for 2007.
One hundred and two festivals have been offered funding totalling €500,000 under round two of this scheme, which provides support to festivals and events taking place around the country in the latter half of 2007. One hundred and seventy five applications were received from festival committees for this round, by the March 2007 deadline, with an overall demand figure sought of €2.216m.
Úna McCarthy, Arts Council Programme Manager, Festivals and Events said: “These events and festivals are crucially important in providing arts programmes all over the country. The growth in the number of high quality applications is indicative of the vibrancy in the arts, especially at local level. It is really exciting that some festivals are expanding while many more are emerging, with virtually every county in Ireland represented”.
The Small Festivals Scheme is aimed, in the main, at small locally-based events and festivals seeking Arts Council funding of up to €20,000.
The awards offered may be used for one-off events or for a programme of festival activities. The average grant awarded to successful applicants in this round was €4,902.
