25 July 2007: Arts Council expresses its regret on the passing of actor Joan O’Hara

The Arts Council is deeply saddened by the passing of actor Joan O’Hara. Joan’s career spanned seven decades on stage and screen and she will be fondly remembered for her role as Eunice in ‘Fair City’. Joan was named best actress at the Dublin Theatre Festival in 1980 for her performance in Graham Reid’s play ‘Dorothy’.

Speaking today, Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council said, “Joan O’Hara was one of Ireland’s truly great actors, renowned for her fearless and committed performances. She was always compelling to witness: a crucible of beauty, mystery and high humour. Irish theatre is much the poorer for her passing. We extend our sincere sympathy to Joan’s family.”
