31 July 2007: Arts Council congratulates film makers on film festival acceptance

The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon extends its congratulations to Matthew Talbot-Kelly, director of the short film Blind Man’s Eye, which has been invited to participate in competition at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival.

Written by Neil Leyden and produced by Michael Algar, the animation film which was funded by the Arts Council/ An Chomhairle Ealaion, Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board and RTE under the Frameworks scheme and is the only Irish competitor in the line-up.

The six-minute film uses advanced animation techniques to tell the story of an old man’s surreal reverie as he sits on his favorite bench.

Speaking of the achievement, Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council said: “This is a great achievement for Matthew Talbot-Kelly and his team. Irish filmmakers and animators are at the forefront of innovative storytelling and this film is a perfect example of that. The Arts Council is delighted to be involved in bringing Matthew’s work to a world audience at the Venice Film Festival.”
