12 June 2007: Arts Council congratulates Bob Crowley on Tony award success

The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaion extends its congratulations this afternoon to set designer Bob Crowley who won two Tony awards – theatre’s highest accolade – for The Coast of Utopia and the musical Mary Poppins at the 61st annual Tony awards in New York on Sunday night.

Bob Crowley has been nominated for the Tony award on thirteen occasions and has now won the award five times.

Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council said: “Congratulations are due to Bob Crowley for winning his fifth Tony award. Irish set designers have proved again and again that their work is of international standard. These awards come at a very exciting time for set designers as Ireland prepares for its first entry in the Prague Quadrennial, which celebrates its 40th anniversary next week.”
