In our strategic partnership with local
government we share common interest in understanding the impact of investment
in the arts at local level. While we have many accounts of the transformative
effect the arts have had on different communities and localities, we do not
have a systemic way of gathering this information to tell the story of true
impact. For that reason we are creating a new system to assist us in assessing
the social impact of investment in the arts at local level.
To do this we are using a Social Impact
Assessment (SIA) model drawing on excellent resources developed by European
counterparts. It will be based on our shared values and convictions, about the
transformative power of arts development work. We are currently piloting this
approach with projects in three local authorities - Carlow, Leitrim and
Quality Matters, a not-for-profit organisation, specialising in
social return on investment, is working with us on this project. We plan to
develop a Social Impact toolkit for wider dissemination in early 2020.
