The Arts Council has expressed its deep regret at the death of dancer Emma O’Kane.
Emma O’Kane was a freelance dance artist, choreographer, performer, dance educator, teacher and workshop facilitator.
She had trained at the Perm State Choreographic Academy, Russia, and performed in Russia, China, USA, Australia, Great Britain, Germany and Italy.
Her work had strongly influenced the Irish contemporary dance and theatre landscape in the last twenty years through her performance and choreographic work. Her practice focuses on personal, political and embodied histories.
Recent choreographic credits included Iarscoiláire, premiere at Dublin International Film Festival 2020 and Olivier award- winning actor Pat Kinevane's latest play, Before having also collaborated on Underneath. She was a core member of CoisCéim Dance Theatre since 2001 performing in over 20 productions both nationally and internationally.
She had worked with many of the leading dance, theatre & opera companies including Rough Magic, Anu Productions, Fishamble, Willfredd Theatre, Abbey Theatre, Prime Cut Productions & Opera Ireland.
Emma is survived by her mother, Joy, brother Nick and sister, Lydia
